The Cyprus problem has been causing fiction between Turkey and Greece for
many years. It also affects the Western Alliance (NATO) of which both states
are members. The UN, mainly Britain and the United States, and more recently
the European Union, have been urgently pressing for a settlement.
The problem stems from events in the 1960s on which important new
light is shed by the recently released British archival documents. This
book analyses those documents in the context of the major events of a vital
period in Cyprus history, and greatly enhances our understanding of the
origins and the subsequent history of the present Cyprus conflict.
