1.2 AREA
Cyprus is the third biggest Island in the Mediterranean after Sicily and Sardinia. Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus comprises, an area of 3.355 square km. and Famagusta Free Port and Zone is spread out on an area of 487000 m2 with the back up availability of land for expansion.

1.3 LANGUAGE
Turkish is the official language, and English is also widely used and understood in official and commercial circles.
The authorities supply health services, but private practices also exist.

1.4 CURRENCY
The Turkish Lira is the local legal tender. The exchange rates are adjusted in accordance with the changes in international currency markets. However, payments and transactions in the Famagusta Free Port and Zone can be made in any convertible foreign currency. There has been no exchange control since 1987.

1.5 CONSUMER MARKET
There is a wide selection of consumer goods of quality. In addition to locally produced consumer goods, almost all-foreign brands are available on the market.

1.6 HOUSING
Good quality housing is available; also there is nothing to restrict foreign nationals for acquiring immovable property.

1.7 CLIMATE
We have a healthy, pleasant climate with dry summers and mild winters, enjoying about 300 days of sunshine a year. The rainy season is from November to March. The coldest month is January with minimum and maximum mean temperatures of 60C, and 130C, respectively, while in August, the hottest month, the corresponding minimum and maximum temperatures are 210C and 360C. Sea temperatures range from 150C in January, to 280C in August.

1.8 ADMINISTRATION
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has been an independent sovereign country since 1983, and has a democratic parliamentary form of government. The economic policies of the government encourage free enterprise and foreign investment. The Directorate is responsible for the implementation of the rules and regulations relating to the Famagusta Free Port and Zone.

1.9 ESTABLISHMENT
Famagusta Free Port and Zone was established in 1977 and commenced functioning in mid-1978.
